12 Days of Healthy Christmas预览
“You Are Somebody This Christmas”
Do you remember what it was like to be in your late teens and early twenties? There are times during our early adult years that we feel like we are nobodies. But here Mary has come to the realization that she is now someone.
Isn’t it amazing that this young teen was able to put into words such a beautiful yet profound song of worship? If we look closely at the phrasing, some may want to assert that by stating that “all generations will call me blessed,” she was getting a little full of herself. I think quite the contrary, and the reason I bring it up is that many times overweight individuals have a mistaken concept of what it means to be humble.
One of the reasons people overeat and misuse food is that they allow themselves to be treated like doormats and mistakenly think that this is godly. When I was taken advantage of and not respected, I would often turn to food for comfort because taking it in always left me feeling worthless and without value. This is not humility. Humility is not to be mistaken with being a doormat. Being humble is not about refusing God’s blessings in our life and denying the complements of others.
This can be especially true during the Christmas season. We can prefer others to such a point that we wreck havoc on our own life. We also can, as the Children of God, experience and enjoy His blessings in life. We can do this and not feel guilty about it.
Realize that you are somebody. Just as Mary had a role to play in God’s family, so also do you. You can fulfill that purpose best when you are healthy.
I am reminded of one of my childhood favorite Christmas specials, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. Hermey the Elf has run off with Rudolph and they find the Island of Misfit Toys. I used to feel like one of those toys. I bet many of you did too.
This Christmas season, God has taken notice of you. He knows your name. He loves you just as He loved Mary. Make the decision to accept this love and you’ve taken a big step towards the spiritual, emotional, and physical health we have been talking about.
Health Tip: Nobody + God creates a healthy somebody.
