Daily Bible Reading - July 2020 God's Life-Giving Word of Promise预览
July 12
Introduction
Today we begin reading excerpts from the book of Exodus, the second book in the Bible. The name “Exodus” comes from a Greek word that means “exit” or “departure,” and refers to an important event in Israel’s history described in this book – the departure of the people of Israel from Egypt where they had been slaves. Today’s reading describes the suffering of the Israelites as slaves in Egypt and how two midwives defied the Egyptian king’s edict to kill Hebrew baby boys.
Scripture Reading
Exodus 1:1-22
Today’s Key Verse: Exodus 1:17
The midwives were God-fearing and so did not obey the king; instead, they let the boys live.
Reflect
Since the time of Joseph’s death (described in Genesis 50:22-26), what happened to the Israelites living in Egypt? Why did the Egyptian king consider the Israelites to be a threat? What hardships did he impose on the Israelites? Why did the midwives defy the king’s edict? Are there times when going against a rule or law is the right thing to do? Explain.
Pray
Merciful God, with a humble and repentant heart, I turn to you in prayer. Order my steps this day so that all I do and say is in accord with your will. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Midwives
Tomorrow’s Reading
Exodus 2:1-25; Moses is born.
