In Want + Plenty by Meredith McDaniel预览
Day Seven
He Will Quiet You with His Love
Scripture: Psalm 46:5; Zephaniah 3:17; Hebrews 11:1–3
We’ve seen the many ways God provided for the people of Israel, even when it seemingly didn’t make sense. We’ve seen his power time and time again.
What if we were able to remember this testament to God’s presence and take our eyes off the horizon, stop focusing so much on where we want to be, and pay attention to where we are?
I love the image the psalmist paints: “God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns” (Psalm 46:5). And Zephaniah prophesied, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing” (Zephaniah 3:17).
We can be confident that even when the darkness lingers, we will have a guiding light that will show us the way, and when the sun scorches, a cloud that will block its intensity.
God knows what we need more than we do. When we can take an honest look at where we are in life and admit that we cannot do it alone, we will then be living out a richness of freedom that only God can offer us. This requires having faith and trust in an invisible God who makes himself visible every day: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible” (Hebrews 11:1–3).
Waking up to see the manna God provides is a matter of recognizing what we already have. When I start to see it, I stand in awe of the glory and grace of our God and am compelled to worship him in any way I can. Whether by writing, dancing, singing, talking, or just being, let’s invite God to be our guide so that we might reflect him with every good gift he has given us, wherever we are in our soul journey today.
Spend time thanking God for the ways he has provided for you this week. In what ways do you seek his guidance and provision for the week ahead?

When life doesn’t go as we planned, we have a tendency to doubt that God is with us. Thousands of years ago, the Israelites had the same fears as they wandered for a generation in the desert, longing for the land of milk and honey that God promised. In this week’s devotional, Meredith McDaniel reminds us through the Israelites’ journey how God provides in the times we need him most.
