Word of the Day: Peace
Definition: A state in which there is no war or fighting; an agreement to end a war; quiet; freedom from oppressive thoughts or emotions; harmony (Merriam-Webster, 2015).
Peace is a gift from God. “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace” (Psalm 29:11). I had to learn in situations and through the passing of time that sometimes you also must chase peace. Psalm 34: 14 says to “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” Sometimes, you literally have to make the decision to have peace. When loved ones bring some of the most stressful situations to you, it is your duty to seek peace for yourself. I had to learn that I can’t solve every problem in my life or those around me. It is not my job to take on that kind of stress. So, I decided to eliminate that responsibility that I placed on myself and that others also placed on me. In most instances in my life, this is easier said than done; however, the peace that I get from doing so is like no other. Thus, it is worth it. Having such peace reminds me about the stories of the followers of Christ who suffered for Christ’s sake. Some of the things they endured, like torture and constantly being punished for proclaiming the name of Jesus were just unreal. However, they wrote and spoke about God’s peace. Such a special gift it is to know that everything will be alright.
Action: The next time you are faced with a situation that seems unbearable, pray and let God know that you want to receive the peace He has made available to you. Then, thank Him for it and completely embrace it.
Prayer: Most gracious Father, I thank You for the peace that You have given me. I fully embrace it and receive it right now. In turbulent times, please help me to remember that You have already given it to me and to keep my mind focused on You. All these things I speak in Jesus’s name. Amen.
Affirmation: I receive my gift of peace from God.
