The #1 Key for Making Right Decisons预览
Day 1 – Get God’s Direction
When it comes to making the right decisions in life, the key to success is to get God’s direction and then base your decisions on that and nothing else.
Because we’re in covenant with Him, Hebrews 8:6 says that Jesus is the mediator of a better covenant established on better promises. When two parties enter into a covenant, it means everything that belongs to one belongs to the other, and vice versa.
In our covenant with God, we like the parts that say His “everything” belongs to us, don’t we? I mean, God owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Ps. 50:10), so that all belongs to us too!
But sometimes we forget the part about our “everything” belonging to Him. That means we shouldn’t make any decision without asking our covenant partner. He will always lead us in the right direction, so we want to let Him lead us and not anything else.
That might sound like a no-brainer, but we all know that we’ve made decisions for a lot of other reasons. One is money. It’s easy to let money decide for us saying, “I’ll take that job because it pays more!” More pay is a good thing, for sure, and God is certainly not opposed to you having more money.
But more money shouldn’t be your priority in life. God should be your priority. Jesus emphasizes this in Matthew 6:33: Seek first the kingdom of God…and all these things shall be added to you. In other words, seek God first, and He’ll make sure you have everything you need to live a successful life—more money, yes; but also other things that money can’t buy, such as peace, health, and purpose. Money is a poor substitute for following God and being in His plan. Money is a hard taskmaster, and the love of it is a root of all kinds of evil (1 Tim. 6:10).
If that higher-paying job isn’t God’s best plan for you, then choosing it based on more money can set off a chain of events that you don’t want to be involved with. You could be miserable at that job.
And if taking that job means you’re not in God’s plan, it could create all sorts of negative consequences, especially if you have a family. Your life could be out of order and you wouldn’t be fulfilling your divine destiny. Don’t let the desire for money decide for you!
