A FATHER’S WISE ADVICE

This is as straightforward as it gets. The human heart is one of the most unique and inexplicable things in life. Often, the heart and mind are at opposite ends and somehow, though it may not make the most sense, we follow our hearts. Once our hearts are set on something, it is often difficult for anything or anyone to convince us otherwise. The heart wants what it wants! The writer of Proverbs understood this and warns us to guard our hearts above all else.

Salvation starts with believing in our heart that God raised Jesus from the dead.  (Romans 10:9)

The greatest commandment is loving God with all of our heart first then soul, mind and strength. (Mark 12:30)

We are to trust in the Lord  with all of our heart and not depend on our own understanding. (Proverbs 3:5)

Here are few more verses concerning the heart written by the author of Proverbs.  Take note that our heart is connected to our physical and emotional well-being.

A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.
(Proverbs 14:30)

A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit. (Proverbs 15:13)

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. (Proverbs 17:22)

So how do we guard our heart? Simply pray and ask God.  Use Psalm 51:10 as a prayer.

Create in me a clean, a pure heart, O God, renew a steadfast spirit within me.

(Psalm 51:10)
