Does anyone remember the days of MapQuest? When you wanted to drive to a new destination, you had to make sure to look up and print out (yes, print out!) the directions to follow to get there. Step by step, you’d let that printed guide get you to where you wanted to go. There was no built-in navigation system, no Siri to ask for help, and no Apple Maps to pull up on your phone and re-route you. It was just you, the open road, and your stacks of printed papers to guide you. While it sounds archaic (because, at this point, it is!), can you imagine the alternative? Just hitting the road with no clue how to get to the destination in mind? That’s probably how Abraham felt when God called him into the unknown. To leave his homeland, to trust that what God promised when he did would come to fruition, to step out in faith with no idea what was ahead.
If you’re thinking, I don’t know if I could do that, you’re not alone! But it’s our moments of uncertainty—the moments when our path feels incredibly cloudy and unclear—that faith is even more important. Walking by faith is what helps us walk into uncertainty. It worked for Abraham, and it can work for you too. What feels unknown or uncertain to you in life right now? Ask God to help you walk forward in faith in that area of your life and to trust Him step by step.

We’re told to have faith that certain things will happen, to put our faith in ourselves, to keep the faith, to be faithful. But while phrases like that get tossed around in our vocabulary all the time, have you ever stopped to wonder what faith is really all about? At its core, faith is all trust, hope, and confidence. In this devotional, we’ll look at how putting our faith in Jesus shapes the way we live.
