This is one of the most emotional moments in Paul’s life. He is saying goodbye to the church in Ephesus - his friends for many years. Now God’s call was taking Paul to Jerusalem where he would be in great danger and most likely be killed. They knew they wouldn't see each other again. We are allowed a peek into the mind of this great man of God who accomplished so much, but also had to endure so much.

Paul said that he did not count his life as valuable. He did not value his comfort, his success, popularity, or pleasure. He was willing to give these things up because he had discovered something of greater value - the race that Jesus had for him to run, which was to tell others the story of God’s grace to him. He knew that he had a holy calling from God.

Many times, the reason why people don’t experience and achieve great things from God is the things of this world are more appealing. Have you come to that point where this world and this life have no value or importance to you apart from God? Have you realized yet that in Him is everything good? David put it this way, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.”

REFLECT

1. What are the most valuable things in your life right now? Which things are impossible for you to live without? What do you spend most of your time, money, energy, and thoughts on? Those are your most valuable things.
2. Have you come to the place where Jesus is the most valuable thing to you? Have you experienced God and known Jesus to the point that you can say He is your greatest treasure?

RESPOND

1. Ask God to show you how Jesus is the most valuable treasure you can have. Pray and ask God to also show you how empty, bankrupt, and worthless the things of this world are apart from Him.
2. Is there something that God has shown to you that you hold more valuable than Him? It might be time to take action on it already. If something needs to be given away, or ended, or let go, this can be the way to discover that Jesus really is the most valuable.
