Return To Your First Love

Our love for God is demonstrated in the way we work for Him in the work that we do. But sometimes we start working so hard that we are no longer work out of love, but only out of duty and service. We become so active, so full of activities in God's house that we forget to worship Him in spirit and in truth because something inside us becomes a custom, a habit and no longer something that is true. Then things cool down; our relationship with God cools down; and it becomes necessary for us to take time to work on our character, work on our desire for Him, and make everything return to the way it was in our first love. During this time, we realize where we went wrong, we remember how we were before we started to get drunk with what God gave us (as happened with Noah, for example, which could be the subject of another devotional). Then our heart begins to turn to Him, and our search becomes true, due to our hunger for His Word and our thirst for His love.

There is time to return to our first love. It's time to give ourselves back to Him. If we are outside the center of His will, His mercy is wonderful. It will come and reach us. We just have to ask. His love breaks us and remakes us. And when we are remade, it hurts. It hurts A LOT, but you know what? It's very worth it. I confess something to you (read each word slowly): It’s really worth it. Return to your first love!
