Bedrock of Faith

New York City is home to one of the largest collections of skyscrapers in the world. Would you like to know how the city is able to support the weight of so many hefty buildings? It has to do with the foundation on which the city is built, bedrock.

Bedrock refers to massive rock formations that are deeply embedded into the earth's crust. This naturally occurring matter is strong enough to hold enormous pressure and weight.

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock" (Matthew 7:24).

"But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand" (Matthew 7:26).

Let me ask you a question. Upon which foundation are you building your life?

If we want our foundation to be rock solid, we need to build upon the bedrock of faith, Jesus Christ.

When we build upon the Rock, our lives will be able to withstand enormous pressure because Jesus bears the weight for us. "The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock" (Matthew 7:25).

Are you going through difficult times? Is the weight too heavy to bear?

Jesus (the bedrock of our faith) can carry the weight of the entire world on His shoulders.

Life Application

Take a moment to review where you are spiritually? Are you building on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ? If not, what adjustments can you make in your daily life to ensure your foundation is on Him?

Prayer

Lord, I know that a life built upon the rock-solid foundation of Jesus Christ is what will enable me to go to greater heights with you. Show me what I can do to strengthen my faith and build a lasting legacy that others can build upon too. Amen.
