[Gregg Matte Wisdom of Solomon] Deep Roots in Relationshipنمونہ
To Know and Delight In
Have you ever been to an engagement shower or baby shower? The day is usually filled with great food, seeing old friends, and fun games. One of the most popular games is the ”Shoe Game,” where the couple is seated with their backs to each other. They answer questions by holding up either their own shoe, or their partner’s shoe. This is where you see how much the happy couple is on the same page. Do they agree on boy or girl? Do they agree on who is messier? It always brings laughter.
How well do you know your spouse? There is a tendency, in the dating stage, to ask many questions, dream about the future, and talk about frustrations and feelings. It disappears once married or married and with kids. The relationship was never intended to end up that way, but it has. Solomon, in this passage, approaches his wife regarding the most intimate places. He tells her that her breasts are like two fawns, her neck is like an ivory tower, her eyes like the pools of Heshbon, her nose like the tower of Lebanon looking towards Damascus, her head like Mount Carmel, and her flowing locks like royalty.
This is not to be used verbatim, but what is Solomon saying here? Her neck is the best and better than anything. She was precious and wonderfully made. Her eyes brought comfort and rest. He could be out in the fields all day, beat up by the sun, but when he comes home and looks into her eyes, he finds rest. He finds peace. Her nose wasn’t as large as a tower, but the tower represented security. So, he was saying her face brought him peace and security. Her hair wasn’t purple, but it was as gorgeous as royalty. She was his crown. Solomon knew his wife. It did not matter that Solomon had all the riches and fame. What he held most dear and as his crowning jewel was his wife. Solomon knew his wife. He knew that she was a gift from the Lord.
Solomon delighted in his wife because he knew her. He had spent much time with her and found that she was consistent. She had been there for him, and he could count on her. Do you know your spouse the same way? Have you spent time with your partner? Have you proven to be consistent?
Our God is consistent and faithful, always the same and never changing. He loves us as much yesterday as He does today. He is not like a shifting shadow. Because of this, we can delight in Him as much as Solomon delighted in his wife. Let today be the day you go deeper in your knowledge of God and your spouse so that your words and actions show how much you delight in them.
