There Is No Condemnation

The word ‘condemnation’ is not commonly used in our everyday language. In his letter to the Romans, Paul uses it as a legal term. To be condemned was to be sentenced. Like the early Christians, we want to believe that God can forgive us, but we also have a tendency to condemn ourselves.

Paul wants us to understand that no condemnation, not even self-condemnation, can separate us from God’s love. Later in the same chapter he writes these words:

I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death or life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

The freedom to live a life inspired by God’s love is on offer for all who choose to belong to Jesus. If you have needed that reminder today, here it is. God has done everything so we can come back into a loving relationship with Him. No matter where you are today or what your past has been, you can simply ask God to forgive you, accept the gift of Jesus’ death and resurrection and start a life founded in relationship with your creator who will not condemn you.
