Hope in the Midst of Anxiety

The Source

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”  Philippians 4:6

When Paul wrote this verse he was in prison himself, not sure of what was to come, facing the unknown. Paul is showing us that in the middle of our pain there can be the hope of praising our God in the midst of uncertainty. Let’s dive into this verse a little deeper, I do not think Paul is telling us to throw out our anxiety and pretend it is not happening, I think the point is we as Christians have to acknowledge our anxiety and pain and cry out to a God who can give peace and hope in the midst of uncertainty. Our mind is a battlefield, and we have to have an awareness and daily conversation with God in order to gain His help in taking the thoughts and anxieties captive!

Fear is rooted in our hearts. In Matthew 6:33 it says:

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Jesus is showing us that fear, anxiety, and worry can be given to God because He cares so deeply. Seek His face and the rest will be taken care of:

“If God can take care of the birds and be concerned for their lives, then can you imagine how much more he loves you?”  Matthew 10:29-31

God continues to work in the midst of our anxieties, just like we have seen in Elijah’s story from yesterday’s reading, God comes in and sits with us. He doesn't condemn or discourage. Allow the Healer and the one who renews strength to come and sit with you.

Hope in the Midst of Anxiety

Anxiety is real, it is hard, it tries to physically and emotionally bind us. Anxiety is real my friends, and it can taint our perspective and instill so much fear of the unknown. Over the next couple of days, we will be looking through different stories in the Bible and learning from those who struggled and also taught on anxiety. There is hope in the midst of the trial!
