Born of imperishable seed
People are frail and their lives are only temporary. The Bible compares them to a flower of the grass: they were beautifully created, but they only last a moment. They are perishable. We all know this is true; we see it all around us.
But the apostle Peter adds an important phrase: “… but the word of the Lord remains forever”. And since God’s children have been born again through this abiding word of God, they will also remain forever! They have been “born of imperishable seed”. They have received eternal life.
Their bodies will still wither and die, but that is not the end. When Jesus returns, He will raise them from the dead. The apostle Paul explains: “So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable” (1 Corinthians 15:42). So, our mortal bodies will be changed into glorious and spiritual bodies that will no longer be subject to death.
This second truth is not obvious to all, because spiritual life is not visible to our human eyes. It requires faith in the Word of God. “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
Do you believe that whoever believes in God, will remain forever?
