Revelation benediction #7: Your clothes are clean
So many different tribes of people on earth; so many different languages; so many different cultures, histories, and achievements; so many different nations. But on judgment day, there will be only two--those whose clothes are clean and those whose are dirty. “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood” (Revelation 22:14,15).
Human sinfulness is disgusting to God, and he will not have it in his heaven. On judgment day, those who are found living in rebellion against his holy laws--sexual immorality, murderers, idolaters, and the rest--he will call “dogs” and banish them from his sight. Here’s a terrible irony--they wanted to be free from God. On the awe-filled day, they will get what they wanted.
But the believers in Christ have clean clothes. Their sins are the equal of any of the “dogs,” but their clothes were cleaned! Faith in Christ brings the forgiveness of sins, the washing of our robes in the blood of the Lamb. People with clean clothes may enter the gates of the golden city, the new Jerusalem, and they will be permitted to eat the fruit of the tree of everlasting life. Forgiven, pure, restored, and holy, we are now permanently part of this splendid new life.
