UNCOMMEN: Confronting Sinنمونہ
The Judgement of a Holy God
Today, we get to the Judgement of God.
So David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord."
And Nathan said to David, "The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die."
In verses 15b - 19, we read about the death of David's child.
Here is the lesson from our study on SIN...there is a consequence even if you are a believer, whether it's discipline, a pause on blessings while you learn this lesson or something as jarring as what David went through because of his sin. (Important Note: Not all bad things in life are results of God's judgments. Some events are simply part of his sovereign plan, regardless of sin.) Grace is not a license to sin.
Romans 6: 1-2 — "What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?”
When Jesus took all of our sins on him when he was on the cross, God being a Holy God, could not look upon Jesus. That's how we should treat sin in our lives. We must turn away! When we minimize sin, we offend God and demean what Christ did on the cross for us.
The hard-line is sin is sin, and it shouldn't be candy-coated to be more palatable for us. Turn off the feel-good sermons and read about the examples God has provided us in the Bible to learn about sin. In a culture of "look at me, tell me how good I am, don't tell me not to do something," we need to renew our boundaries. We need to rediscover that God is Holy and cannot abide with sin. If we are to be Holy as He is Holy, we should not abide with sin either.
It may mean that we leave a Sunday Service not feeling that great because the Holy Spirit has convicted us. We are sinning in a particular area of our life. It may mean we have a friend (like Nathan) come to us and hold us accountable and let us know that "we are that man."
But don't worry...Day 5 is coming!

Uncommen Challenge:
I challenge you to adjust your perspective on sin and how you take part in it, and how you communicate with God about it.
