Becoming Great In God's Eyes

Many people today feel that being a servant somehow belittles them. The thought makes them feel smaller or less significant than they would like to feel. So they say, “I’m not going to serve. I’m a successful person. Why should I be serving?” Sadly, I’ve even heard Christians talk like that.

But when we get to heaven and meet Jesus, He is not going to say, “Well done, my good and faithful apostle.” Neither will he say, “Well done, my good and successful pastor... teacher... or CEO.” No! He’ll say, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matt. 25:23).

Our highest aspiration in this life should be to follow the example of Jesus, and live our lives as a servant of all. We should desire nothing greater than to be someone who serves God, serves His purpose, and serves His people.

Instead of having an aversion to the word "servant," learn to embrace your servanthood for God's kingdom. For God esteems those with a humble and contrite heart (Is. 66:2), and promises the inheritance of the earth to the meek (Matt. 5:5)!

Prayer for the day:

Pray and ask God to help you carry a servant’s heart in everything you do. Aspire to love and serve both God and His people the best you can!

Kong Hee: God's Favor

The key to greatness in Christ is to have total reliance on Him. As you surrender fully to His perfect will to serve His purpose and His people, God will bestow favor upon your life. As Christians, our highest aspiration should be to follow Jesus’ example of being a servant to all, carrying the attitude of humility. At the same time, the Bible is clear that our calling is to "obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29). So when it comes to man, have an attitude of humility; but when it comes to God, let your attitude be one of total obedience!
