бо чоловік — голова дружини, як і Христос голова Церкви, і Він же Спаситель тіла. Та як Церква кориться Христу, так і дружини — своїм чоловікам в усьому. Чоловіки, любіть своїх дружин, як і Христос полюбив Церкву і віддав Себе за неї, щоб освятити її, очистивши обмиванням у воді через слово, щоб представити її Собі славною Церквою, яка не має плями, чи зморшки, чи чогось такого, але щоб вона була святою й непорочною. Чоловіки так повинні любити своїх дружин, як свої тіла; хто любить свою дружину, той любить самого себе. Бо ніхто ніколи не мав ненависті до своєї плоті, але годує і гріє її, як і Господь Церкву; бо ми члени Його тіла, від Його плоті і від Його кісток. Тому залишить чоловік свого батька і матір і приліпиться до своєї дружини, і будуть двоє однією плоттю. Це велика таємниця; я кажу стосовно Христа і стосовно Церкви. Утім, і кожен з вас хай так любить свою дружину, як самого себе, а дружина хай боїться свого чоловіка.
