Today we are going to look at two aspects of how God uses Isolation. First, we look at Joseph.
Joseph, is one of the most remarkable stories in the Bible. We see that he went from “Pit-Prison-Palace”. But in between, there were times he was isolated, all alone, he probably felt abandoned. In Genesis 40, we see how Joseph is in prison, and because the Lord was with him, he was made in charge of the prisoners there. We see how he interprets the two dreams of the cupbearer and baker. After the dreams are fulfilled, in verse 23 we see that the cupbearer forgot him. Chapter 41 tells us that two whole years have passed till Pharoah’s dream. God will isolate you for his purpose and for his time. Sometimes Isolation is for your protection, sometimes it’s for a greater purpose for your life. Sometimes that one moment is the purpose of your life.
God will isolate you for his purpose and for his time.
The second aspect of how God uses Isolation is to restore Him to the rightful place in our lives.
Sometimes in our lives, we need to be isolated so that God can be restored to his rightful place in our lives. Jonah, a prime example of a person who was running from God but after being isolated in the fish for 3 days, he now runs for God. We see how he goes to Nineveh and how the people respond.
Peter, another example where Jesus predicted he was going to deny Him 3 times before the rooster crowed. After Peter denied Jesus and he realized, he wept. Sometimes in our lives, we may not realize but there is an idol there, there might be sin, something that has taken the place of God in our lives. Sometimes we need to be isolated to re-evaluate who has that number one spot in our lives. When Christ met Peter and restored him, he then went on to become one the most influential writers of the Gospel.
Thomas, another disciple, who loved Jesus. He was unable to see how this whole thing was going to pan out. He was not in the room when Jesus met with the others, but then Jesus met with him again and his response is amazing “My Lord and My God”.
God uses isolation to restore us to the rightful place in our lives.
