The Greatness of God: The Greatness of God's Power
Look around you and see how vast is this universe that God has made. The numerous galaxies, beautiful stars, wonderful planets, amazing mountain ranges, life-sustaining rivers and oceans, diverse living creatures on land, sea and air, etc. Our God is indeed an all-powerful God as He demonstrated this when He created the universe through mere spoken word that (Gen 1:3, Ps 33:9).
God’s divine power operates not merely in single concrete acts, but is closely and comprehensively related to the world we live in. Be it in nature and history, in creation and in redemption, it produces and controls and directs everything that comes to pass. When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless.” (Gen 17:1)
God Almighty, ‘El Shaddai’, designates the divine power as standing in the service of His covenant-relation to the patriarchs, going beyond nature and overpowering it in view of the interests of redemption. The Almighty God, ‘El Shaddai’, who calls Abraham and made the covenant with him, is able and will fulfil all that He has promised.
The greatness of God’s power is beyond our imagination and comprehension. He is committed to and is more than able to fulfil His promises to those who have faith in Him. We worship an awesome and powerful God! As we trace through the whole Bible, we can see God’s power being demonstrated through the redemption story since the beginning of times.
“It is about the greatness of God, not the significance of man. God made man small and the universe big to say something about Himself.”
- John Piper
