A Miracle named Bob
Hello, my dear friend!
One of the most miraculous moments in scripture to me occurs in John 13:
“It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” (John 13:1-5, NIV)
What an incredible miracle of humility and servanthood. The Creator is washing the feet of His creation!
Let me tell you about a miracle named Bob. Bob had a deep passion for our African brothers and sisters. Bob would often say that he loved his American house, but his home was always in Africa. For years, Bob sacrificially gave his time, expertise, leadership skills, and compassion to build schools, orphanages, and medical clinics in Tanzania. Bob had a miraculous love for people, and his passion and purpose changed the lives of so many.
I learned so much from my friend, Bob. His humility was outstanding. Upon returning from a trip, he NEVER spoke of what he had done but instead was always so grateful for all that His spiritual family had poured into his life while he was serving!
On one particular trip that will remain etched in my memory for a lifetime, Bob and I had the honor of washing the feet of our African brothers. There were tears, laughter, joy, and healing in the room that night as we followed the example of Jesus. One by one, we washed each other’s feet as the full extent of the love of Jesus overwhelmed us all. What a moment!
When the night was done, Bob took me aside and said to me, “Never forget this miraculous moment when we were visited by the King who washes the feet of His children.”
Bob spent his life washing the feet of people. He loved them with eternal love and passion. His love transcended every barrier that society could create, and his life was a walking depiction of the humility and servanthood of His Savior, Jesus.
Take a moment right now and pause.
Who has washed your feet through love, sacrifice, or a simple offer of help? Thank God for them. Praise God for the miracle of service and give God glory for the fact that He sent someone to encourage you and they were obedient!
Stay in this moment with me for one more moment.
Who can you bring the miracle of humility and service to today? Instead of a bowl and towel, could you bring an encouraging word, an offer of help, or simply the gift of presence?
Today is the day to be a miracle in someone else’s life! You will be so glad you did!
Bob went home to be with Jesus a few years ago. His heart lives on with his Tanzanian family. Thank you for modeling the miraculous gift of service my brother. You are missed.
My dear friend, carry Bob’s example today. You can be a miracle to someone else too!!!
You are a miracle!
