HELP!: A 10-Day Devotional by Brandon Lake

ARAW 6 NG 10

The last couple of years have turned so many worlds upside down. For some of us, they’ve been the hardest years of our lives—each for different reasons. But regardless of the circumstances, I’ve noticed a commonality when talking and writing with others. We can all relate to the theme of hardship. So, I wrote this song as a bit of a “yeah, me too.” Sometimes, just knowing that you’re not alone is comforting in and of itself.

But the one person who is always there to comfort us, who never leaves us, and who never stops taking care of us is God. He is Jehovah-Jireh, meaning “the Lord will provide.” We don’t need to doubt His provision, because if He’s even taking care of the birds and the lilies (Matthew 6:25-34), there’s no reason why we need to be filled with fear or doubt that He’s going to provide for us, His very children. I remind myself that it may have been a hard year, but I still have breath in my lungs. “The lilies have clothes, the river still flows, and the sun’s still shining.” It might have been a hard year, but God is still good.

Next time you’re filled with worry, I encourage you to look back and see the ways the Lord has provided for you in the past. Give thanks. Remind yourself why you’re still here and that He’s got you. And while you’re listening to this song, declare these words a little louder: “Saying goodbye to my fears. Hello, good morning, I can see the light. I’ve got brand new eyes, time to say goodbye.”

HELP!: A 10-Day Devotional by Brandon Lake

Thanks for joining me on this 10-day devotional, which shares the freedom, truth, and intimacy found only in God. This plan is based on the songs from my recent album, HELP!, which I wrote out of a place of anxiety while desperately searching for freedom. I pray these words and songs draw you closer to God and that you, too, begin to see the light. Goodbye fear, hello hope.
