Isaiah: God's Vision for Our Hearts

ARAW 5 NG 6

The Woe of the Conceited

The fifth woe of Isaiah 5 is the woe of the conceited. In this verse, we learn of sinners who are arrogant, shrewd, and who think highly of themselves. This type of sinner is considered conceited. They boast of their own ideas and actions, believing they are wiser than others and wiser than God. They place themselves on the throne of their hearts rather than their almighty and powerful Creator.

This illustration shows us what true Christians do not look like. Christians can have opinions, feelings, and thoughts, but we also recognize that the ultimate source of truth is God and his Word. This verse  hearkens to the previous woe as well: we are not to place anything above God and his truth. Do not change the truth for a lie!

Thankfully, God is always close to us. If we cannot distinguish a truth from a lie, we can go to him and the Bible and find out for ourselves. Fellow Christians, what a blessing it is to have access to the source of all goodness and truth wherever we go! God is amazing in his plan, and we can trust that the truth will always triumph over evil.

God, thank you for being the source of truth. Thank you that we can trust you in everything, even when things do not seem to go our way. Please help us remain free of conceit. May we always stay humble and praise your name for everything.
