What Made Jesus Mad?

ARAW 1 NG 10

When you think about What Made Jesus Mad, your mind likely went to the scene where Jesus threw the money changers and animals out of the temple. Jesus was angry, and he did something positive with his anger. He didn’t say, “What in the name of me!” and go Incredible Hulk on them. He channeled his zeal in positive ways. He did overturn tables and throw corrupt people out of the temple, because he was rightfully angry.

In every Scriptural instance where Jesus expresses anger – the rawest of all emotions – this is the match that lit his fuse: Do not get in the way of God’s love. Everything Jesus came to accomplish had to do with reuniting the Father with his children. So if access to the Father was Jesus’ purpose on earth, then it logically follows that it angered Jesus the most when people created barriers to that access.

It’s very easy for the church today to fall into habits of blocking people’s access to the love of the Father. Which should lead us to ponder what Jesus would think if he came to our church and observed the way we are helping people connect to the love of the Father – or denying them, as the case may be.

Where is God challenging you today to get fired up about people’s access to the Father’s love? Where is he asking you to express some anger regarding obstacles to God’s love?

What Made Jesus Mad?

For years Christians have asked, "What would Jesus do?" But what if we asked a better, more illuminating question: "What Made Jesus Mad?" What if, by coming to understand God’s holy anger, we come to know a savior we never knew before? Take the first step in this 10 day plan.
