Walking With JohnHalimbawa
He Was Not Understood
By: Pam Mays
For Easter, when I was in 3rd grade, my mom gave me this beautiful white, zippered King James Bible. I treasured this precious gift; I knew it was special. However, I did not understand what the Bible said. It wasn’t that I couldn’t read; I had not yet come to true faith in Christ. In a sense, I was like the Pharisees, not knowing or believing Jesus was God’s Son, sent to be my Savior.
In John 7, leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, the Pharisees didn’t believe Jesus was the Messiah. Thus, they refused to accept His teaching. They were content with their rituals, and their foolish hearts were closed to their long-awaited Messiah.
Do you understand who Jesus is today? Do you recall a time when you didn’t understand God’s Word? (John 7:28-32)
Today, I love God and still treasure that little, white, zippered Bible my Mom gave me so long ago. I am thankful that Jesus became real in my life. I now understand the Word of God better as the Holy Spirit teaches me. I was fortunate to have an amazing, godly couple mentor me who read through Acts and Romans with me every Saturday morning for a year. They invited me to their church, where I met other believers who were welcoming and friendly. This gave me an amazing faith foundation when I was a “baby” Christian. They discipled me from God’s Word and also through the incredible example of their lives. It was important to see what godliness looked like. They taught me that Easter is a precious time of remembering our Savior who came, died, and rose again to forgive you and me of our sins. Join me today in thanking God for loving us so much that He sent Jesus! “Thank You, Father God!”
Questions to Ponder
-Have you ever asked God to reveal Himself to you? If not, please talk to God about that now. Don’t wait any longer!
-Do you feel far from God? Ask Him to expose any wrong attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors in your life. Repent (stop doing it), and ask God for forgiveness.
