HIS RIGHT HAND IS POWER

There is a mind-boggling, unexpected twist in the plot of God's marvelous plan. Even though we have been forgiven, our sin is paid for, and we have become His children, for now, God has seen fit to leave us in our sinful bodies!

How can this be? Holy, righteous God comes to dwell in our bodies even though they are still riddled and weak with sin. The amazing, incredible paradox! We are Holy Spirit indwelt, but still "sin-dwelt!"

What do we do? Work out our salvation with fear and trembling, all the while trusting in His mighty right hand to accomplish what we cannot. God sees us in His Son and considers our sin paid for, but we are given the task of working out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12).

Nothing temporal can restrain the eternal power and love of God Most High, not the weakness of our flesh, the darkness of our sin, or the wickedness of our hearts. Even now His right hand sustains us.

When David says that God's right hand upholds him (Psalm 63:8), he is acknowledging God's reign. David trusts God for his sustained life and for the guidance and protection provided by his omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient Lord and King. The writer of Psalm 73:23 declares, "Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand" (ESV). This is childlike weakness held in the power of the Almighty.

David knows he is weak but that God is strong. He tightly squeezes His Father's hand, knowing God is the one who has the real grip. So David follows, clinging, expecting God to do all and be all. He knows God's promises and he believes.

In "Absolute Surrender," Andrew Murray says, "I am sure there are believers here who are struggling to find out what their want is, who possibly have given themselves up most heartily and fully to Jesus, who do love Him, who have sought to humble themselves to dust. But the want is that they have not learned simply to say: ‘He has promised, and He will do it.'"

Maybe you believe in God, but do you trust Him and hold fast to Him, knowing that His right hand upholds you? As you go through your day, consider your current circumstances in light of God's Word. How can you apply what you have read today to your heart?
