Why Doesn't God Answer My Prayers?

Why doesn't God answer me?

Practically everyone I've met, at one point or another, has asked the questions: Why doesn't God answer my prayer? Why don't I get an answer to my prayer? Is God angry with me? Am I not good enough? Don't I believe "hard enough?"

Some Christians try to defend God when people ask questions about God's actions. Don't try to play God and think you can answer all questions. Only God knows everything. God can speak for Himself. The Holy Spirit is God's Advocate to us. The Holy Spirit Himself can and will reveal the will and acts of God to us.

Over the next few days, I'll discuss several reasons why God sometimes doesn't seem to answer our prayers—at least not the way we expect them to be answered.

It is essential to understand that our "responsibility" is to pray, and God's"responsibility" is to answer. So often, we want to pray and give the answer. God has a will, and His will is perfect. He is Almighty and knows what He is doing. If God is not also allowed to say "no," then what is the purpose of prayer, and what kind of God do we have that we can and should tell Him what He should do? Jesus teaches us to pray: "Your will be done". If we pray this prayer correctly, it is a sign of faith, not unbelief. Sometimes, people say when we pray, "Thy will be done," it is a sign of distrust! Certainly not.

Was it out of distrust that Jesus told us to pray, "Thy will be done?" Others say we only have to ask once; otherwise, it's disbelief. Paul prayed three times before God answered him, saying, "No." Jesus went to pray three times in Gethsemane, and God said "No" to Him. It wasn't a result of their unbelief.
