Happily Even After: 5 Tools to Heal Your Marriage, by Dannah Greshตัวอย่าง
Day 2: PRAYER is your weapon!
What you’re experiencing is not just a physical battle. It’s a spiritual one. Even if you’re not sure what’s going on, you do not have to leave your marriage—or your sanity—to chance. God has given you a weapon to fight the enemy of your soul: prayer. We read about it in Ephesians 6, where we’re encouraged to put on the armor of God.
When we take time to put on these proverbial heavenly warfare garments, we can “stand . . . against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places . . . praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.” (Ephesians 6:11–12, 18)
What an invitation from the Lord for when you feel weak or confused. You can choose to rise up in strength to pray at all times in the Spirit!
Do you know what that means? It means you have divine help. You do not have to pray in your own strength or understanding because the might of God’s all-powerful Spirit will be present in your prayers.
Prayer is a weapon that cannot be disarmed.
Karen Ellis works as an advocate for the global persecuted church. (Translation: she does a lot of interceding!) She makes this remarkable observation about prayer:
“God’s given [prayer] to us . . . as a spiritual weapon. It’s not just a nice thing to do. And the interesting thing about treating it as a weapon is, if you think about all the weapons of the world, anybody can disarm you. I can build a bigger nuclear bomb.
I can disarm you with your gun. I can take a sword or a knife out of your hand. But nobody can take prayer away from you. Nobody can stop you from praying. Nobody can disarm your prayer. Isn’t that a crazy thought? It’s an amazing weapon.”
You may not have control over your husband’s heart or fully understand what’s happening to your marriage, but you have authority “over all the power of the enemy” (Luke 10:19). Satan’s plan is to use whatever is happening to destroy you, your husband, your children, or even your grandchildren (if you have them). But you can “stand against the schemes of the devil” with the weapon of prayer.
And no one and nothing can disarm you!
Pray God’s Word: Lord, give me words to pray. I don’t have much strength to intercede for my husband and my marriage without your help. Thank you that you’ve given me your Spirit to empower me. Make me sensitive to His promptings as I seek to pray on this occasion. In Jesus’ name, amen.
