Refiner’s Fire

Prepare:

Become aware of the nearness of God. How would you like to respond to Him in this moment?

Read:

❖ Malachi 3:2-3

❖ Psalm 51:10

Consider:

Heat plays an important role in creation and transformation. Heat + clay = porcelain.  Hot water + leaves = tea. Without heat, you would not have a teacup or tea. You would have clay and water.

Sometimes it takes heat and pressure in your life to shape you into who you truly are.  Heat can be any place you experience discomfort. It takes courage to allow the Lord to mold you in difficult circumstances.

Recognize heat for what it is in your life.

Yet, you can be heat-resistant. If you have ever been in California, you may have noticed wide spaces in the landscaping along the roads called firebreaks which are put into place to keep wildfires from spreading. Sometimes people also use firebreaks - a wide barren space - in their heart to protect themselves from the refining fire of God.

Meditate:

Do you find yourself keeping distant from that which would refine you or catch you on fire to burn for God?

What beauty is being forged from the refiner’s fire in your life?

Activate:

❖ Where are you feeling heat in your life at the moment?

❖ Notice what is forming you over the next few days.  How can you be intentional about allowing God to form you?

❖ What spaces in your life are the most moldable?  The least moldable?

❖ Do a Scripture study of fire.

❖ Journal about the times in your life where you have felt the fire of God refining you.

❖ Notice where you are open or resistant to the refiner’s fire. Do you have firebreaks in your heart?

Prayer:

Father, you are amazing. Please give me whatever I need to be the hands and feet of Christ today. Forgive me as I forgive others. Teach me to walk in step with your Spirit. Lead me away from all that would turn my eyes from you. I love you. Amen.
