Sanctuary - Moments In His presenceНамуна
If you wondered yesterday how Habakkuk could worship God in such profound ways under such dire circumstances, let me point out the obvious; how shall the righteous live? By faith! (Habakkuk 2 v 3). The natural man would look at the oncoming disaster, absorb all the dire warnings in his daily paper, be filled with fear and probably cave in. Habakkuk is filled with fear, BUT he has faith. Faith does change things, I promise you. Not just circumstances and sickness and so on but also how we perceive them. The worst moment in my life was quite suddenly, apparently from nowhere, filled with the dazzling silver light of heaven. God transforms us and that is why Habakkuk’s third chapter is a wonderful psalm of praise instead of a litany of grumble, grumble, grumble!
The book closes with what I call the three ‘thoughs’. Note well in our days amidst much hysteria about everything and anything and when you have done that, my friend, stand. Habakkuk 3 v 17 reads,
‘Though the fig tree should not blossom, and there be no fruit on the vines, though the yield of the olive should fail and the fields produce no food, though the flock should be cut off from the fold, and there be no cattle in the stalls, yet I will exult in the Lord, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation…’ The wonderfully transformative power of God has touched this man’s spirit and brought him wisdom and intimate knowledge of God. It feels good! Even in the midst of nothing remaining, this man will exult in God. Supernatural transformation!
He finishes with the most precious declaration that has been my prayer on many days. ‘The Lord God is my strength, and He has made my feet like hind’s feet, and makes me walk on my high places.’ (Habakkuk 3 v 19) If you are in a place of being stripped away at this time, if the experiences of life are crushing you while the light fades, I commend this to you. “Lord, make my feet like those of a mountain deer, skipping on the mountains that I may reach my high places in You”. Amen.
