Hiding Place DevotionalНамуна
In Quietness and Trust
We are fast-paced, red-faced, non-stop people. We are women, we are moms. The raisers of the tiny humans. We do what we believe to be expected from us. If we sit down with a speck of dust in sight or a single dirty dish in the sink, we let those little voices in our head taunt us that we shouldn’t rest.
In Isaiah 30, God is speaking to the children of Judah. They are foolish and rebellious. They are seeking approval elsewhere and turn away from God in their own fear. God calls them back to himself. They learn the lesson of trust. A lesson that is still so difficult for God’s children to learn. I battle with trusting daily, because I turn to the idols and people in my life for approval just like Judah did.
“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.’” Isaiah 30:15.
I feel like the Lord is saying this directly to me, while I’m hiding behind my dust bunnies and seeking the approval of how many people say my kids are cute. “Rest in Me,” He says. While I can’t take five minutes to be with Him. “Repent of your flesh,” He cries out. I brush off my sin as human nature and continue to fall over and over. “TRUST ME,” He pleads with me. My flesh wants nothing to do with it.
Repent. Rest. Quiet. Trust. Confidence in God quiets and stills the soul. It brings peace to a storm of fear. Trust in God brings rest to our plans and sets our eyes on Him. He fills us with salvation and strength.
We keep reading in Isaiah 30, God says he longs to show us compassion. It’s not just something He has to do because He’s God. Even when we continue to fail Him daily and hide behind our fears and dust bunnies. It’s time to put down our idols of housework, measuring up, or comparison. It’s time to truly trust in the one who brings us refreshing rest!
And remember, rest in Him does not mean there is an absence of disturbance in your life, especially with those little noise makers you are raising. It simply makes the noise more glorious!

About this Plan
Aren't there times as a mom that you just want to hide...like in the pantry with a chocolate bar? Hidden from the storms of life and the weight of responsibilities. Hidden from the noise. Hidden from the routine. Hidden from our to-do lists. Just hidden and alone with Christ where we can hear Him call us by name and let His songs of victory fill our ears.
