Before The Cross: We Are Sinful
Something is wrong with the world. Something is broken. Something is wrong with all of us. Deep down I believe we all sense this. We can tell something is not right and can’t quite explain why. Whether or not we are believers, I think we can agree this is true.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
When we come before the Cross of Christ, we become painfully aware that there is nothing we can do to be in a right relationship with God. There is nothing we can do to obtain salvation.
Ever since Adam and Eve committed the first sin (Genesis 3), we are all born into our sinful nature and there is nothing we can do about it. Even our world is broken which helps explain why so many tragedies happen that aren’t even in our control. At the end of the day, we are sinful and God, who is Holy and set apart from us, can’t and won’t tolerate sin.
Even if we have a “good” day full of good works including loving others and serving them, the Bible says our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment (Isaiah 64:6).
So if we are sinful and there is no hope for us, what are we supposed to do? Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there…
