WALK IN THE SPIRIT
You may have heard today’s scripture before, but have you ever wondered HOW to wait on the Lord to move in your situation? Surely you have better things to do than pacing the floor and wringing your hands!
Thankfully, the bible gives you wisdom about what to do to endure the wait:
1. Seek the Lord before any decision. In Ephesians 5:17, we are advised, ”Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
The key word here is ‘understand‘. Who knows the mind of the Lord better than the Spirit of the Lord? As a believer in Jesus Christ, you have the Holy Spirit living in you and dwelling with you. The Holy Spirit’s role is to guide you and tell you things to come (see John 14:17 and John 16:13).
If you rely only on your human understanding when making decisions, it’s like viewing the situation through a peephole. But when you ask the Lord in prayer for guidance before making a decision, the Holy Spirit will reveal to you the Godly answer, the panoramic view. Your job is to wait until you receive that answer. Peace and confidence in your Spirit accompanies the Godly answer.
It may be outside of your comfort zone, but your Spirit will know it is the right thing to do. Before you act, ask!
2. Walk in the Spirit. The bible promises that when you walk in the Spirit, you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Why is this important? When you are anxious or worried, you are more likely to do things to relieve tension that might feel good now, but destructive later, such as overeating, excessive drinking or other fleshly behavior.
However, when you walk in the Spirit, you occupy yourself with the following activities daily:
• Encouraging others
• Keeping a praise song in your heart
• Being thankful
• Being humble in your dealings with others
When you focus your mind and actions on doing these things rather than the wasteful activity of worry and destructive behavior, then you will have new strength and be ready to do whatever the Lord calls you to do!
