Better Together: Connecting With God And Each Other

DAY 7 OF 15

Set Your Pride Aside

Do you ever find yourself frustrated, trying to figure something out for hours, refusing to ask for help? Do you ever feel afraid that someone won’t like your work when you present it to them? It’s easy to be prideful of our work, afraid to ask for help, and caught up in our own “do it myself” attitude. After all, asking for help is a sign of weakness, right?

Our weakest moments often come along with sin. Instead of being prideful, self-sufficient, and inward, James calls us to “confess our sins to each other and pray for each other” - to shed our insecurities and be vulnerable with those around us. James says plainly that we are better together.

Sometimes, too, it’s difficult to deal with others who continually require our help. We have our own things to do! Yet, we are called to support others just as we seek and need the support of others. Paul writes in Ephesians: “Be patient, bearing with one another in love.”

By humbling ourselves and putting away both our pride and insecurities, we see that others are around us to help and support us, and us them. Through connecting with each other, we uplift each other.

Reflections:

  • Why is it difficult to admit to others we need them?
  • Is there someone who is really driving you up the wall right now? What would it look like to show them patience and bear with them in love?
