ATTENTION GRABBER
Moses wasn’t looking for God in the wilderness. God found him there, however. And God’s presence gave Moses a gateway to step into a place of true worship.
We often think that if God is present, people should notice him. Moses should have sensed he was on holy ground, right? But the act of “coming into God’s presence” doesn’t necessarily mean we understand that presence. We take the first step towards worship each time we become aware that God constantly surrounds us.
Moses’ awareness of God’s presence preceded his training in worship. Out of our desire to worship, we often rush to manufacture forms and feelings of what we believe worship should be. We’re missing out on the real thing. Our “It’s Sunday, let’s worship” attitude skips an important step. Like Moses, our worship only begins after we recognize God and attune our hearts to listen to him.
Looking for holy ground? God will direct you to that place of worship in the most unexpected times. Be ready to turn your attention to him.
Lord God, please help me recognize your presence in my day . . .
