Comforted by God

DAY 1 OF 10

Using the words of Pat Esberry and Boyd Bailey, run to the Lord in the midst of your grief and pain. God promises to be a light in the dark days of depression, suffering, and hurt.

Grief Journey

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Psalm 91:1-2

Our walk during the early days of grief seems to be the most arduous. We find ourselves barely limping along. Try as we might, sometimes the best we can do is get out of bed, take one breath at a time, and move our feet slowly, one in front of the other. If this is where you find yourself today, take heart, my fellow weary traveler. God understands these days. He not only walks beside us, but it’s on these days when He carries us. It was during one of the earliest days of walking this road when I made the decision that no matter what, I would follow Jesus. Was my heart broken? Yes. Was it going to be less broken if I walked away from my heavenly Father? Certainly not. Grief will be one of the hardest journeys we will travel, yet where else will we go? Who else can we run to? If we put our hope and trust in God, He will surely help us find our way.

“God is indeed my salvation; I will trust and won’t be afraid.”

Isaiah 12:3

Father, I need You today. Please cover me and lift me up when I feel as if I’m drowning. When I cannot take another step, please carry me through this darkest valley. I know that if I put my entire heart and soul into Your hands, Lord, I’ll find the strength and peace I need for this journey. Please lead the way, Lord.
