Tajikistan (Central Asia)

After the USSR’s breakup in 1991, Tajikistan experienced a civil war, which devastated the country and displaced about 20% of the population. Now, it is a presidential republic and has the highest percentage of Muslims in Central Asia. However, many Tajiks merely follow Islamic culture rather than strictly adhere to Islamic teachings.

A law was implemented in 2011 prohibiting all religious outreach to citizens under eighteen. This has had a huge impact on church activities since it is estimated that 50% of all Christians are under this age. Tajik believers experience significant pressure from family, friends, and the local community to return to Islam.

There is a need for the Tajik ministers and leaders to be equipped with a deeper knowledge of God’s Word, ministry experience, and godly character to lead the church into the future, especially as the number of new believers continues to increase.

Prayer Points to Consider:

• Pray for the discipleship programs that are in place in Tajikistan to continue to grow and flourish as local students take part each semester in a program of training, Bible study, counseling, mentoring, and inner healing.
• Pray for the safety of the families and homes of Christian workers in the nation and for mature and committed work teams for their ministries. Also, request divine protection for all believers, accompanied by courage, sensitivity, and boldness to share their faith.
• Pray for financial resources for churches and individual believers to use creative ways to reach their neighbors with the Gospel.
• Ask the Lord to continue building the ministry of emotional healing, especially for women, with gifted and trained leaders in God’s Word and those who are sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
• Ask the Lord for the nation of Tajikistan (Psalm 2:8) to experience a wave of revival, that Jesus be glorified and countless hearts would be won for Him, know experientially His salvation, healing, and deliverance.

Dear Heavenly Father...I pray for the nation and people of Tajikistan today. Lord God, I ask that You strengthen the faith of local believers so they can witness to their family, friends, and coworkers in their cities and towns around the country. I pray for local leaders who are empowered by the Holy Spirit to be healed and mature so they can be agents of transformation in society. I declare prophetically over Tajikistan’s young believers 1 Timothy 4:12 that they would experience the Spirit’s infilling and overflow and walk in purity and Your love in all their conduct. May streams of Holy Spirit living water be released to save millions in Jesus’ One and Only Name. Amen!
