Failure Is Not Final

DAY 7 OF 7

How to gain victory over spiritual failure (2)

How do I overcome failure, especially spiritual failure?

1. Failure to Seek Wisdom: Too often, we rely on our own wisdom and experience. It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that since you have so much experience and know-how, it is ok for you to make your own plans without consulting God. It must be standard procedure in a Christian’s life to seek God’s guidance. We need to pray for wisdom and discernment. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5). “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Be not wise in your own eyes” (Proverbs 3:6-7).

2. Failure Through Pride: Pride leads to destruction and falling. God abhors proud people. The Bible says God resists people who are full of pride. Embrace humility and dependence on God. It is unbearable to live in the presence of a person filled with pride. “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).

3. Failure in Waiting on God to speak to you before you go into action: Impatience and taking matters into our hands can lead to failure. This is probably one of the most common mistakes we all make. We are so scared that we might miss God. We feel something needs to be done immediately. Remember, God made you, and He knows how to speak to you in a way that will get your attention. The bigger problem is neglecting the things we know need to be done. You can trust God with “timing”. “Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” (Psalm 27:14).

4. Failure Through Lack of Faith: Doubting God’s trustworthiness, ability, faithfulness, and promises will lead to doubt, a heart without peace, stagnation and, ultimately, failure. Faith comes by studying God’s character. Strengthen your faith by meditating on God’s Word and promises. “And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).

5. Failure to Love: God’s first command is to love. God will not compromise on this one. Without love, even our best efforts can fail. Our love must be unconditional and abundant. “And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony” (Colossians 3:14).
