Christian Discernment

DAY 6 OF 8

Discernment in Your Calling

1 Corinthians 1:26-27 reminds us that God's calling is not based on human wisdom, status, or abilities. He often chooses those who feel inadequate by worldly standards to accomplish His will. Many of us can disqualify ourselves from ministry because we feel unworthy, focusing on past mistakes or our perceived lack of talent. But God's calling is not about what we think we lack—it's about His purpose for us, and how He uses our unique experiences and gifts for His kingdom.

Discerning your ministry calling involves understanding that it's not about self-judgment but aligning with God's purpose. As you seek to connect with God's calling, consider how your spiritual gifts, personal interests, and experiences all work together to guide you. God's Spirit often uses these elements to lead us toward our calling. Be open to the ways He may confirm your calling through others in your faith community. Stay patient, keep learning, and remain open to how God may reveal His plan for you.

Closing Prayer:

"Lord, thank You for the unique calling You have placed on each of our lives. Help us to trust in Your wisdom and not in our own abilities or past mistakes. Open our hearts to recognize the gifts, interests, and opportunities You have given us, and guide us in discerning the path You’ve set before us. Give us the humility to listen to Your Spirit and to seek confirmation from those around us. Strengthen our faith, Lord, and let us walk boldly in the purpose You’ve designed for us. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Discussion Question:

What gifts, experiences, or interests has God placed in your life that might be pointing you toward a specific calling or ministry? How can you take steps to discern that calling more clearly?
