God Is the Source of Love
“Love is from God” (1 John 4:7)
Much has been said and written about love. Love is an emotion, a feeling. But it is more than that. Love also has to do with devotion and loyalty to the one you love. Love makes you seek the best for that other person, even if it comes at a cost.
Love is beautiful. It lets life sparkle. Sometimes love can also be difficult or confusing, for instance when your loved one dies or when someone you love hurts you. Love makes you vulnerable.
History has many inspiring love stories. Books or movies frequently feature the theme of love, often in a romantic sense. The Bible also has such stories. But the ultimate love story is not about romance. It is about God loving people. He is the source of love. The Bible even goes so far as to say, “God is love” (1 John 4:8).
God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit love each other perfectly. That perfect love extends to us humans as well. In fact, the overall story of the Bible provides evidence of this. What God does for us shows His love. Let's look at that in more detail in the coming days.
What does the word “love” evoke in you? Are you experiencing love right now? From whom, and for whom?
