Acts 9:1-19 | God Can Save Anyone. Anyone!Намуна
Saul left Jerusalem breathing murderous threats, intent on locking up anyone in Damascus that was a disciple of Jesus. Then Jesus levels him. Acts tells us that a light from heaven flashed around Saul, and he falls to the ground. Jesus appears to Saul and speaks directly to him. Saul came to discover that Jesus was not dead but very much alive. This revelation changed everything for Saul. If Jesus was alive, his persecution of Jesus was against God.
Saul came to admit he was wrong, which led to changing his mind and message about Jesus. There’s an irony in the story that gives us some insight into Saul’s amazing come-around. Saul can see, even though he’s blinded by his own sin and misplaced zeal. Jesus meets him. Once blind to Jesus, he now sees him clearly despite becoming blind to everything else. Later, through the ministry and witness of another follower of Jesus, Saul is once again able to see and now sees everything differently.
The irony of life is that when we look to ourselves (or other things) instead of Jesus, we’re blind. But when we turn to Jesus, we see ourselves and everything else more clearly.
What happened to Saul is a metaphor for you and me. The Bible has a word for it: repentance.
You can say that Jesus led Paul to change direction with a simple question: “Who are you, Lord?” This question applies as much today as ever. Do you see Jesus for who he is? And how will you respond when you do?
The good news is that Jesus came so we could see him and turn to him, too. Read Acts 9 again and a couple of other passages in Acts where the apostles invite people to turn to him. No matter how blind you might have been, Jesus invites you to look to him as your Savior and Lord today.
About this Plan
God can save anyone. Even you! In Acts, God saves a man named Saul, who was persecuting Christians. Jesus confronts him, and it leads to Saul turning to Jesus as his savior. This 5-day plan continues a journey through the book of Acts, the Bible’s gripping sequel of Jesus at work in the life of his followers as he expands his kingdom to the ends of the earth. It’s a journey on what it means to be a Christian. It’s a story in which you have a role to play.
