These two verses in Proverbs are probably some of the most well-known in Scripture. You may have even heard them quoted outside of church or faith-based spaces. That’s because this passage is one that people tend to gravitate toward and take hold of in their lives. While that’s partly because it’s truth from God’s Word and that’s encouraging to all our hearts—believers and unbelievers alike—it’s also because this particular piece of wisdom is so practical.
When the passage said we can trust the Lord with all our hearts, that’s exactly what it means! With every part of our hearts, we can trust that the Lord will direct our steps and care for every detail. Instead of leaning on our understanding or ways of getting things done, we can submit to the Lord’s leading in our lives. When we do, we can have faith that He’ll make our paths straight and direct our steps toward His best for our lives. What better promise is there than that? What’s one area of your life that you can trust the Lord with right now? Today, submit that to Him in prayer, asking God to make your path straight and direct your steps in faith.

About this Plan
We’re told to have faith that certain things will happen, to put our faith in ourselves, to keep the faith, to be faithful. But while phrases like that get tossed around in our vocabulary all the time, have you ever stopped to wonder what faith is really all about? At its core, faith is all trust, hope, and confidence. In this devotional, we’ll look at how putting our faith in Jesus shapes the way we live.
