Journey With Jesus 365

DAY 69 OF 365

Did Jesus deserve to die on the cross?

Pontius Pilate and Herod themselves believed that Jesus was blameless; they found no fault in Him that would make Him worthy of the death penalty. However, many Jews at that time, especially the high priests, were offended by the teachings of Jesus Christ. They highlighted that Jesus would not pay tribute to Caesar, as He claimed to be the Christ, a King. The Jews were determined to have Jesus crucified on the cross and to have Barabbas, a known criminal and murderer, be freed instead. This scenario is not only true in Jesus' time. Nowadays, people are confused about what is right and what is wrong, what is acceptable and what is an abomination in the eyes of God. People are skeptical of the truth of the Bible and are embracing worldly beliefs.

Jesus died on the cross for our sins. The sins committed by people back in Jesus' time are the same sins people are committing today. We are all blindsided by worldly pleasure, validation, materialism, and the desire for belonging. This causes us to fail to see the truth that Jesus died on the cross for our sins so that we can all be saved through faith in Him!

So, did Jesus deserve to die on the cross? NO, but it was part of the great master plan of God, so we can all have HOPE in Him.
