Connect With God Through Fasting | 7 Day DevotionalНамуна
FASTING IN HUMILITY
“I wept and humbled my soul with fasting…” (Psalms 69:10)
You can fast for many reasons. The heart of a fast should always be to humble yourself before the Lord. Paul in Philippians 2:1-10 teaches that when you humble yourself, you become more like Jesus. Fasting is simply asking for more of God in your life—more of Him and less of you. Connecting with God through fasting is when you decrease and His desires increase in your life.
Areas of pride are often revealed through fasting. The tactic of the enemy in this is to get you to focus on yourself instead of God. This is similar to how the enemy won the Pharisees’ hearts by deceiving them into believing fasting was about people looking to them, instead of them looking to God (Matthew 6:16-17).
Fast with pure motives, humble yourself, and look to God.
PRAYER
Father, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus. Thank you for displaying humility to me, to the point of death on a cross. Deliver me from pride. Humble me. Make me more like Jesus. I want to look more like You. Amen.
APPLICATION
- Ask God to reveal areas of pride in your heart.
- Repent for where you have you stopped looking to God and instead looked to yourself or others.
- Expose any lie you have been believing and renew your mind to God’s truth.
About this Plan
There is only one way to God and it's through Jesus, but in Jesus, there are many ways to connect with God. One way you can connect with God is through fasting. Fasting is a spiritual discipline that calls us to deny the desires of our flesh and fill ourselves up with God, His Word, and His presence. Through this 7-Day devotional, our goal is that you would walk away understanding the importance of fasting and be equipped with the tools to connect with God through fasting.
