New Day, New Year, and New Beginnings - 31 Days of Fresh Starts

DAY 25 OF 31

Holy Spirit Discernment...

And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues...
Mark 16:17 NKJV

Verified by what took place beginning in Acts 2 to the very end of the book, the Lord Jesus has called His church to walk in all the power of the Holy Spirit. In other words—don’t leave home without Him!

Yet, we may have varying views on this subject because of the teaching we’ve had, the tradition or emphasis of the church we are a part of or our own personal opinion. So, this isn’t a devotional on the marvelous gift of speaking in a spiritual language or all the Spirit’s gifts listed in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. However, I highly encourage you to seek the Lord and search the Scriptures for yourself. Regardless...

No matter where you sit on the spectrum of whether spiritual gifts are available to believers today or not, we can all agree—we need Holy Spirit empowerment more than ever. Truthfully, any new course or behavior we are trying to establish must be rooted and grounded in His person and work. We especially need His gift of discernment because not every open door before us may be one He is opening or would lead us through.

As soon as possible, carve out time alone with God. Remove distractions. Invite the Holy Spirit’s presence (Luke 11:9-13). He is more than willing to come. Worship. Carefully place your new thing in Jesus’ hands. Listen to what He has to say. You will hear Him, and His words will align with His Word. His voice may be soft and still, but it will be important.

Repeat as needed. Well...honestly...repeat for the rest of your life.
