Realignment: Three Days With God

DAY 5 OF 5

Day 5: Post-Fast Reflection and Renewal

We have completed our fast! This is where we ease back into regular life; don’t jump back into life in full force. We are easing back by reintroducing things into our mind, body, and life. There are things we cut out of our lives over the last three days that should be gone and others that should be introduced in moderation. We need to keep the connection with God as a priority as we begin to move back into our rhythmic life.

Psalm 34 invites us to “taste and see that the Lord is good.” Having set aside food, comfort, or other forms of sustenance, you’ve likely experienced the hunger for God more profoundly during this fast. As you break the fast, reflect on how God has revealed His goodness to you today. What new insights, peace, or strength has He given you? How have you tasted and seen His goodness in fresh ways?

As you return to regular routines, remember that the purpose of fasting isn’t limited to a few days of intensified devotion. It’s meant to rekindle a hunger for God beyond the fast. Carry forward any practices or revelations that have helped you draw near to God—whether it’s increased time in prayer, moments of solitude, or heightened awareness of His presence. Let this experience shape your ongoing walk with God, reminding you that He is your trustworthy source of sustenance.

Fasting also often brings spiritual clarity and vision. Spend time journaling or praying about any specific insights or revelations God has given you during this fast. Maybe He’s shown you areas where you need to trust Him more or ways to serve others compassionately. Write down these thoughts, and commit to carrying them into the weeks and months ahead.

Spiritual Evaluation

Write down things that the Lord brought to mind during your fast. These may be your marching orders for the next season of life. As you move in the direction He is leading, you will find your connection with Him continue to grow outside of your fast.

Practical Preparation

Continue to drink a lot of water. Reintroduce food into your diet slowly. A Mediterranean diet is recommended for today. Fruits, nuts, or beans are a good way to ease back into your diet. Meat should be considered a side, not a main course. You should avoid raw vegetables or complex flavors. Maintain this diet for 1-3 days until your body feels strong and your stomach feels normal again.

Ask Yourself:

1. How have I experienced God’s goodness during this fast?

2. What practices or insights from this fast can I continue daily?

3. How can I maintain a deep hunger for God even when the fast is over?

Prayer Focus:

Praise God for His faithfulness and goodness. Ask Him to help you continue seeking Him with the same intensity and to keep the lessons from this fast alive in your heart. Pray that this experience will bear lasting fruit in your relationship with Him.
