A Year in Luke/ActsНамуна

When Satan comes to test him with food, power, and pride, Jesus succeeds. Jesus knows that he is coming to do things in a different way than, to be fair, what seem on the surface perfectly plausible temptations. He needed to eat; he was going to have dominion over the earth’s kingdoms, and angels were watching over him. But if he was to give in to Satan’s conditions, it would have set him up to be just like the rest of the world and its rulers:
“Jesus is indeed to become the world’s true Lord, but the path to that status, and the mode of it when it arrives, is humble service, not a devilish seeking after status and power.” (Tom Wright, Luke for Everyone, p44)
