Light of the WorldНамуна
In today’s passage, some wise men came looking for Jesus after He was born. It could have been two or three or twelve men asking where he had been born. We tend to picture three wise men, maybe because it fits in nicely with “gold, frankincense and myrrh,” but the Bible doesn’t say it’s three wise men. It does say that these wise men, however many it happened to be, were telling people, “We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” | Matthew 2:2
Now the Greek word for “star” in this passage means, well it means “star.” Back then, (as far as we know), astronomical observations were restricted to the naked eye. There was certainly no James Webb Space Telescope to distinguish planets from stars from galaxies from nebula! Regardless, these wise men still saw a significant stellar event in the night sky that was moving over a period of time, eventually resting over Bethlehem somehow, demonstrating without question that a King had been born.
It took the wise men a few months to travel to Bethlehem from some unknown, faraway place. We don’t know from where, and we don’t know how far they traveled. The Bible doesn’t give us this detail, and we are hard-pressed to fill in the gaps. This same bright and shining light in the night sky was created at the beginning of time and placed in motion—with all the other planets and stars and galaxies and nebula—on its own meandering pathway and God-ordained purpose of guiding wise men to the King of Kings: JESUS.
Question:
As you go about your day, are you engaged in being a light to those around you, pointing them to the King of Kings?
Application:
Invite the Holy Spirit to walk with you throughout your day, today and every day. Invite Him to use you to shine through you, bringing the Hope of the world, Jesus, to everyone you meet.
