How to Keep the Fire BurningНамуна
Keeping our fire for God alive requires more than enthusiasm; it demands sacrifice. The priests in Leviticus were instructed to keep the altar fire burning by placing burnt offerings on it. This constant fire reflected commitment and sacrifice. Jesus, too, calls us to this kind of devotion when He says we must bear our cross to follow Him (Luke 14:27).
Sacrifice—whether of time, pride, or comfort—is often the fuel that keeps our spiritual fire alive.
Sacrifice may look different for each of us, but it’s always about choosing God over convenience. This could mean spending time in prayer when we’d rather sleep, forgiving someone when it’s hard, or giving generously when we feel stretched. True sacrifice deepens our relationship with God, refines us, and makes our passion for Him stronger. As we offer ourselves to God through these acts of surrender, He keeps the flame within us burning brighter.
A life on fire for God will involve both small, daily sacrifices and occasional bigger acts of surrender. Don’t be afraid to lay something down for His sake. God is worthy of everything we are afraid of losing. God honors each offering and uses it to fuel a more passionate faith. Just as the altar fire was tended and fed with fresh offerings, so our spiritual fire grows when we live with hearts open to surrender.
May the Lord guide you, and may your love for Him only grow deeper and stronger from this point forward.
Let's pray:
Lord, I ask for the strength to live a life of sacrifice, to lay down my pride, comfort, and even my plans, knowing that my fire for You grows with each offering. Help me to willingly give what is needed to keep my heart burning for You, trusting You to keep this flame alive. Amen.
