Worship Through Advent: A Seasonal Devotional for Your Worship Ministry

DAY 2 OF 4

Worship in Peace

Be still. Right now, in this moment. Pause your reading if you need to, and just allow yourself to be still before the Lord.

Jesus was famous for finding a quiet place to meet with God. It was vital to His life and ministry. We know that everything Jesus did in His life was a perfect version of what we, as Christians, should aspire to be. So, we should seek peace like Jesus did. But do we? Chances are we could all do better. Christmas is such a beautiful season for so many reasons, but one thing the season tends to bring is an atmosphere—an appearance—of peace without actually being peaceful. Christmas lights, falling snow, cozy fireplaces…they seem peaceful. But the peace of Christmas doesn’t come from all of that. Christmas peace comes from the Prince of Peace Himself. A tiny baby born in a lowly manger, in a small town with nobody around. This Prince of Peace was born for you and for me. So, how do we seek peace like Jesus did? When we seek Him with all of our hearts, we will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13) and give Him all of our worship. Then, our souls will find the peace we long for. And the best part is that the peace of Jesus is not a one-time thing! When you belong to Jesus, His perfect peace lives in you. You can access that peace anytime, anywhere.

If you raced through that moment at the beginning to pause and be still before the Lord, there is always time. Do it now. The Lord is patient toward you (2 Peter 3:9). Christmas is almost here, and the arrival of the Prince of Peace will be celebrated like it is every year. But let this year be different for you. Worship from a place of peace that surpasses your own understanding. Peace that can only come from full surrender to Jesus. No matter your season or circumstance…there is always a way to worship in peace.
